The clean burning sage is used in energy cleansing rituals known as smudging. Smudging ceremony is a sacred ritual for Native Americans. The ritual cleanses and purifies both the physical and spiritual bodies. This cleansing routine removes negative energy to prevent illness and disease. Disease originates in the spiritual body and then manifests in the physical body. If it is not cleared, disease dominates. Energy healers often recite at each corner of the room, ceiling, and floor, “Release all negative energy and allow only that which is meant for the highest good.”

Burning Instructions:

Light the bundle from the top end or crush the leaves to be burned separately. A light flame is needed to burn the smudge stick, and the flame should be blown out almost immediately. The smoke that comes from the smudge stick is what’s important, not the flame. Walk through your rooms clockwise and fan the smoke into the corners, ceiling, and floor. Feel free to open windows and doors to release excessive negative energy that may exist.

As the smoke lightly fills the space, say a prayer or hold an intention of cleansing and removing negative energies from the space.
